Odoo 20 is out, and the shift is real: AI stops being a chatbot bolted onto the side of your ERP and starts acting directly on your records — scoring vendors, catching timesheet gaps, flagging reconciliation errors, drafting marketing campaigns. Here's what actually changes, app by app, and why it matters if you're running a business on Odoo.
Purchasing: know exactly which vendors are worth renegotiating
Instead of eyeballing a spreadsheet before a supplier call, you can now ask Odoo which vendors are worth renegotiating with. It builds a score from every past order — pricing, reliability, volume — so you walk into that conversation knowing exactly where you stand, not guessing.
"A clear score built from every past order, so I know exactly each vendor's worth."
CRM: lead enrichment without a separate tool
A directory of more than 580 million entities is now built into the CRM, so a new lead gets qualified with real company data on the spot — no exporting to Apollo or Clearbit and reimporting the results.
Inventory and Manufacturing: fewer people watching the floor
Barcode receipts now split automatically into the batches your warehouse actually uses, instead of one you have to reshape by hand. On the shop floor, finishing one work order automatically releases the next one that was blocked behind it — nobody has to notice and unblock it manually — and a new Kanban view makes it obvious at a glance what's urgent.
Timesheets and Planning: gaps get caught before they become a problem
When time entries slip through the cracks, a timesheet assistant now catches it — instead of a manager finding out at invoicing time that half a project's hours were never logged. And if your team works across client sites, Planning now shows a crew's live location as they move between jobs, which used to mean a round of phone calls.
Discuss and Phone: fewer tools to keep a conversation moving
Settling a decision no longer means a side thread in Slack — a quick poll in the project's Discuss channel does it in seconds. And if you need a new business line, you can buy one directly inside Odoo in a few clicks, with no separate telecom account to set up.
Website and eCommerce: a smoother path from visit to checkout
The website editor got a real visual pass — clearer layouts, secondary options tucked into a collapsible sidebar instead of cluttering the screen. On the storefront side, customers can now pick their preferred delivery date right at checkout, instead of finding out the delivery window after the order is already placed.
Point of Sale: one system, counter service or self-service
The same POS now runs a full-service restaurant floor and a self-ordering kiosk or mobile flow without switching systems — useful for any retail or hospitality business that mixes both models, or is thinking about adding self-service without a separate platform.
Accounting: ask a question, get an answer from your own numbers
"What am I owed in receivables?" is now a question you can ask directly and get answered from your actual reports, not a report you have to build first. Reconciliation gets the same treatment: when something looks off, it's flagged before it turns into a month-end scramble.
Payroll: warnings before payday, not during it
A new dashboard highlights what needs attention and sets up warnings so problems surface with time to fix them, not on the day payroll runs. And you can simulate an employee's salary directly from their profile — handy for a raise conversation or an offer, without building a spreadsheet first.
Marketing and Industries: a running start
You can now ask AI to build a whole marketing campaign for you, rather than assembling it piece by piece. And whatever sector you're in, there are more than 100 industry-specific configurations to start from, with new ones added every month — a real head start over building your setup from a blank instance.
Worth knowing before you upgrade
This covers the headline changes, and there's more in the official release notes. One practical detail: AI features across the platform now run on credits purchased through In-App Purchases, worth factoring into your budget once these agents become part of daily work.
If any of this sounds like it would save your team real time — vendor scoring, self-service POS, AI-answered accounting questions — it's worth a proper look at what an Odoo 20 upgrade or first implementation could do for your operation.
